The support I received for both my husband and myself has been top-class
I have cared for my husband for over 8 years but a close friend told me that when I needed help, to contact Lucy. From the moment Lucy came into our lives, it has been above and beyond. The support I received for both my husband and myself has been Top class. After my husband went into hospital I still needed support and I had a weekly visit from N to help me keep the running of home up to speed. I also had regular phone calls to check in with me, as so much was happening and it was great to have that service.
The carers treat him like a family member
The Howardian Care Company have been looking after my Dad for the past two and a half years, as he has dementia and needs support. As we — his children — live far away from him, it is very reassuring to know that he is being cared for so wonderfully.
They provide holistic and individual care, including some personal care, shopping, cooking him lovely meals, housework, watering the garden, arranging any repairs needed at his home, managing and administering his medication, and taking him to any doctors’ appointments.
But, most importantly, they do activities and outings that he really enjoys, such as going to a café, visiting a garden centre or Beningbrough Hall gardens. Recently, he visited a birds of prey centre and a ‘flower belt’, where he could pick his own flowers, which he loved.
The carers treat him like a family member and do everything to make sure he feels safe, cared for and has a happy life, which is all that we want for our Dad.
I would recommend them without reservation
My stepmother Brenda had early signs of Alzheimer’s and felt that she needed help in her home. We contacted The Howardian Care Company and they quickly arranged for a carer to help Brenda. Her name was Vicki.
We all got to know Vicki very quickly and realised she was perfect for Brenda. She was very caring, organised, reliable and totally trustworthy. She helped Brenda for around three years. If Vicki was unable to see Brenda for any reason, The Howardian Care Company would always arrange cover. The carers who came to cover were always like Vicki — excellent.
Unfortunately, Brenda suffered a few falls and went into a home for a few weeks’ respite.
The Howardian Care Company is an excellent, very organised organisation. Whenever we had any issues regarding Brenda’s care, they were always able to help. They were an invaluable help to me during this time of Brenda’s life.
I would, without any reservation, highly recommend The Howardian Care Company.
They took a lot of pressure off me
My wife has Alzheimer’s and I have given her 24-hour care for three years. The Howardian Care Company found us a weekly companion for my wife, who took her out and spent time with her each week for about a year.
Sophie was very familiar with dementia care and developed an amazing relationship with my wife, taking a lot of pressure off me.
The Company has a very professional and caring approach, led brilliantly by Lucy.
They completely restored my faith
Before finding The Howardian Care Company, I had experience with two other care providers supporting family members with dementia. Sadly, those experiences left me feeling that compassionate, high-quality, person-centred care simply didn’t exist. The Howardian Care Company completely restored my faith.
From the very beginning, Lucy and the team have gone above and beyond, providing not only exceptional practical care but genuine companionship, kindness and dignity. They are always thinking ahead, anticipating Mum’s needs and supporting us as her daughters every step of the way.
Nothing ever feels like too much trouble, and their knowledge, sensitivity and professionalism give us complete confidence that Mum is receiving the very best care. Rather than simply providing a service, they have built a warm, trusting relationship with Mum that feels much more like friendship than care.
I genuinely cannot recommend The Howardian Care Company highly enough. They are an outstanding team, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have found them.
Nothing was too much trouble
From the first time I was introduced to Lucy Lowther through mutual friends, I knew immediately that she would be able to help my family. My father, aged 86 and fiercely independent, was in need of additional housekeeping support and a daily hot meal.
I met Lucy for a coffee in Easingwold and we worked out an immediate plan and then a long-term solution. She was so positive and understanding, having had a similar experience in her family. I took her to meet my father, who really warmed to her. I was relieved that my father’s situation could be hugely improved, as I live in Oxfordshire, nearly 200 miles away, and my sister lives overseas.
Lucy’s support to my father at home ended quickly when he was admitted to hospital, but Lucy and her team continued to look after his house and make it look lived in. I found very quickly that nothing was too much trouble and her attention to detail was outstanding. Lucy kept the house how my father would have wanted it and always made sure that any problems were quickly resolved. She answered emails, telephone calls and messages instantly.
Her team arranged deliveries and a variety of cleaning and decorating services. Her knowledge of local businesses and suppliers was invaluable, and she was incredibly supportive when my father died in hospital. Lucy assisted with the preparation of the house sale and disbursement of the contents. She even redirected post to me. She sensitively handled relationships with my father’s neighbours and future house purchasers on our behalf.
Her talents are so many that it is impossible to list them all. I would say, in summary, that she is a totally honest person who you would like to have in your life supporting you in a time of need. Finally, she has a great sense of humour, which is often needed.
I would highly recommend Lucy Lowther and her team of helpers.
I could not have managed without them
I would like to record my heartfelt gratitude to Lucy Lowther and her team of Howardian Helpers, who gave me such absolutely wonderful support during my wife’s dementia illness.
Every member of the team was so kind and considerate and went out of their way to make my life tolerable.
I could not have managed without them.
Their support has been invaluable
I am so grateful to Lucy and her team for all the support and reassurance they have given me over the last few months. My mother is living with dementia. She forgets recent events, is uncertain about the past and can’t remember where she is, which leads to confusion and high levels of anxiety.
The dementia only became evident after a traumatic fall two years ago at her bungalow in Somerset, when she broke her hip. She spent time in hospital, then a temporary care home and then time at home with live-in carers. It became clear at this point that, even with this level of support, she would be unable to stay at home. We tried a care home down there, but it didn’t work out for us. She needed to be near family.
After moving her up to Yorkshire last year, the care home she was in felt they were unable to meet her needs, as she was becoming so unhappy and fearful, and at times paranoid. So I was forced to find somewhere else for Mum. At this point I was so stressed I was really struggling.
When I rang Lucy and asked her to meet my mother and me, she was so kind, empathetic and understanding, and seemed to naturally know exactly how to reassure us both. I immediately felt I could count on her for practical advice and emotional help as we navigated finding a new care home and helping Mum settle into the new one.
In order to give me some much-needed rest, she arranged for Claire to visit Mum twice a week initially and report back to me. This support has been invaluable. Claire and Mum became friends almost immediately, and Mum knows her and loves her visits. Claire continues to visit Mum every week, and I look forward to hearing about their time together.
Knowing that someone so kind and caring is spending time with Mum when I can’t, and giving me such amazingly detailed feedback, is so important. It has allowed me to find time to look after myself, so I am able to be in the best frame of mind when visiting Mum.
I can’t thank the team — Lucy, Claire and Kayleigh — enough for their genuine love and support for both my Mum and me as we navigate this difficult journey.
She will lift your spirits
Are you feeling you can’t cope, a little overwhelmed with life or in need of help? Call Howardian Helpers. This company is the brainchild of Lucy Lowther, who realised she could offer this much-needed help.
Lucy is kind and efficient, and willing to do anything you ask of her. She is also charming and has a great sense of humour. When you feel down, she will lift your spirits; there will be lots of laughter and life will be brighter.
She also has a car and will take you shopping, or even for a little ride in the country if you want to get out of the house. She has cleverly collected a group of women who also fit the above description. How do I know? I am one of her devoted clients.
They went round the world with our mother
We asked Howardian Helpers to literally ‘go round the world’ with our ageing mother — and they did.
We could not have done it ourselves. We are eternally grateful, and so is our mother.
Mum has a renewed zest for life
I am so pleased we chose Howardian Helpers to support my mum. Rachelle has been amazing with her kind and thoughtful approach, offering gentle encouragement and assistance.
She is helping my mum regain her confidence with meal preparation, and it is lovely to see Mum with a renewed zest for life.
I really cannot thank Rachelle enough for the friendship, care and support she is providing. I am 100% certain we made the right decision in choosing Howardian Helpers.
Gentle cheeriness and reliable professionalism
Lucy brings a gentle cheeriness to her caring role and is willing to help in any way.
She is very concerned for the welfare of her clients and approaches her job as a carer with the reliable professionalism that is needed.
They have kept me going
We’ve been in lockdown for over a year. I haven’t seen my daughter for over a year.
I have my carers four times a week and I look forward to them coming. Lucy, Gill and Sammy have kept me going over the last year.
Lucy goes well above being a carer; she is a friend, as are Sammy and Gill. I love their visits and can’t thank them enough.
Jolly, reliable and genuine people
They are simply wonderful helpers, for whom nothing is too much trouble.
They are jolly, reliable and genuine people who love to make a vital contribution to any household. Their versatile skills include positive conversation and gentle encouragement.
I would recommend Howardian Helpers every time. Our cocker spaniel can’t wait for Lucy to arrive.
Her face lights up when they arrive
Howardian Helpers have been helping my mum live with dementia and stay in her home.
Her face lights up when they come to help her, and they always go that extra mile. They are flexible and can often find solutions to the problems that dementia causes.
Lucy and her team are incredible to work with
I am a private carer and needed some extra assistance with a wonderful lady. Lucy and her fabulous team came along and met her.
What can I say? Lucy and her team are incredible to work with, communication is always high on the list and nothing is too much trouble.
If you have a dear one who needs some extra help, these are the ones.
We would employ her at any time
Lucy Lowther is a competent, charming, knowledgeable and hard-working lady with a good sense of humour. We would employ her at any time.
The service she received was Rolls-Royce
Howardian Helpers looked after my mother alongside another private carer and were able to support her 24/7, with both sleeping nights initially and waking nights latterly.
The service she received was Rolls-Royce and enabled my mother to stay at home for longer and keep her independence.
I cannot speak highly enough of the Howardian Care Company
I cannot speak highly enough of the Howardian Care Company, the management team are thoroughly efficient, with a professional yet friendly/ courteous manner.
The "live in" carers are of the highest quality, caring, totally devoted and almost like family.
The complete package from Lucy and her team has totally transformed her life, enabling her to still live at home, her carers take her out shopping, to a cafe and even trips away.
Without this extremely high quality care, she would definitely have to be in a care home and would lose her spark and semi independent home life.
This may to be a somewhat effusive review, but it is how I genuinely feel, if anyone ever is undecided regarding care, I would be more than willing to discuss my thoughts and experience.
